Hydration Station: 4 Tips for Staying Hydrated

My favorite season has finally arrived -- It’s summer!  Since we’ve been experiencing a heat-wave here in Chicago, I thought it would be a cool idea to share my tips for staying hydrated.

  1. Add fresh fruit or essential oils to your water

Spice up your water by adding a fresh lemon or lime. I love adding other fruits to my water too-- like fresh berries or watermelon.  Mint adds a refreshing touch if you have some extra leaves to use up from your garden. Since I’m currently obsessed with essential oils-- I’ve been adding some to my water too!  I use Young Living Vitality oils. My favorites are peppermint and lemon! What I love about vitality essential oils, is that I can throw the bottle in my purse and flavor my water wherever I may be!  Did I mention I also keep a peppermint essential oil bottle at work? Yes, I’m that serious about it! Who wouldn’t want to drink water with some extra flavor throughout the day?! It’s refreshing and is sure to keep you hydrated on a hot summer day.

2. Keep caffeine intake lower

Most of you know I love drinking coffee and caffeinated teas, but on a hot day, I try to limit my caffeine intake to one cup per day.  Why? Because caffeine, when consumed in large quantities, can be dehydrating; so limiting intake on hot days will help you make more room for hydrating beverages, like water!

3. Don’t forget your water bottle

One of the best ways to stay hydrated throughout the day is to bring a water bottle with you--bring it to school or work or while traveling.  There are always places to fill up a water bottle and if you have one handy, you won’t forget to drink.

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables

Fruits and veggies are loaded with water, so adding them to your diet can keep you hydrated.  Watermelon, cucumber, and zucchini are my summer favorites!
